CNC Machinist

Joby Aviation is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team in Northern California. As a CNC Machinist, you will play a critical role in the development of our electric aircraft components, working closely with engineers and technicians to design, manufacture, and test complex parts.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and program CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and grinders, to produce high-precision components.
- Set up and operate equipment, including drill presses, saws, and measuring tools, to ensure accurate and efficient production.
- Determine the best machining strategy, tool selection, and setup for each project, taking into account part material, geometry, features, tolerances, and system capability.
- Collaborate with team members to develop standardized processes for machining, work holding, and setup to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Work with engineers, QC technicians, and programmers to provide solutions, feedback, or alternative approaches to solve technical manufacturing problems.
- Perform self-inspections and measurements of product dimensions using quality control measuring tools.
- Document and communicate effectively within the team environment.
- Continuously improve a well-organized and safe environment for all workspaces.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum years of machining experience.
- Ability to operate, program, and setup CNC 3-axis mill and lathe.
- Manual lathe and mill operation experience.
- Basic machine edits, knowledge of G&M codes.
- Proficient use of common shop measuring tools.
- Basic understanding of GD&T.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-growing environment with aggressive timelines.
- Attention to detail, excellent problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to perform a variety of tasks to complete jobs on time.
- Maintenance of machines and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs unaided.
- Familiarity with 5S or similar workplace organization methods.
- Knowledge of Haas and Fanuc controls.
- CNC probing routines.
- CNC live tooling lathe experience.
- 3+2 and 5-axis machining experience.
- Programming experience.
- Fusion360 experience.
- Excellent documentation and written communication skills.
- Basic Jira, SharePoint, and Microsoft D365 experience.
- Forklift experience.
Joby Aviation offers a competitive compensation package, including base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $31-$42/hour.
