Job Title: HVAC Mechanic I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Mechanic I to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As an HVAC Mechanic I, you will be responsible for providing journey-level work in the areas of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration. You will design, install, service, and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction. You will also assist in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electrical circuits, perform preventive maintenance, and instruct lower-level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide journey-level work in the areas of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
  • Design, install, service, and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction.
  • Assist in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electrical circuits.
  • Perform preventive maintenance.
  • Instruct lower-level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs.

Requirements:

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
  • Three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution, and control systems.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Working Conditions:

This position requires great physical effort in the installation, repair, and removal of HVAC systems. You will work with close custody and minimum custody offenders and have frequent contact with offenders. You will be required to perform repairs on equipment outside your specialty and have diversified knowledge of several trades.

Benefits:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with state benefits. The salary range for this position is $36,682 - $64,194. If selected for this position, the salary range offered will be within the posted salary range.
