We are seeking a skilled Welder (Fabricator) to join our team at Marmon Holdings, Inc. in Muscatine, Iowa. As a key member of our rail tank car repair shop, you will be responsible for welding and repairing components related to tank cars, including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, and more.
Key Responsibilities- Weld components related to tank cars, including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
- Perform welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
- Use hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
- Repair, straighten, remove, rework car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
- Perform welding and mechanical repairs to tank cars when required.
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards.
- High School Diploma or GED, or be willing to complete an on-site basic skills assessment.
- Basic welding experience; 1 year of professional welding experience is preferred.
- Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions.
- Have analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Safety and quality focused.
- Be available to work any shift.
- Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract.
- Will have to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Will be working around hot work and fumes common to welding and body repair.
- May work in confined spaces and must be able to enter and fit through an 18-to-20-inch manway opening.
- May work from heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection.
- Great union wages starting at $25/hour, with shift differential premium ($2.00/hr for 2nd shift & $1.00/hr for 3rd shift).
