Position Overview:

In this capacity, the Medical Support Associate will primarily engage in administrative responsibilities while also providing assistance in clinical settings as required.

This role encompasses a broad spectrum of patient care activities under the direct oversight of the clinic's supervisor, an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), or a physician.

These activities may include both therapeutic and diagnostic functions.

Key Responsibilities:
Embrace and uphold the core values and principles of patient-centered care as defined by the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Accurately document all facets of patient care in accordance with established hospital protocols.

Support the Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.) with managing the in-basket for providers and addressing all related messages.

Handle MYCHART communications for all healthcare providers.

Complete and prepare all necessary documentation requested by educational institutions.

Process prescription refill requests for all providers.

Coordinate appointment scheduling.

Pre-certify medications and services as needed.

Assist with FMLA paperwork.


Execute any or all tasks related to direct patient care as assigned by the registered nurse or physician, adhering to nursing policies and procedures.

Effectively implement and document patient and family education as directed by the RN or physician.

Collect and record vital signs.

Conduct tests such as pregnancy tests, urinalysis, and hemocults, tailored to the specific patient demographic.

Perform phlebotomy tasks.

Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Assist in specimen collection, ensuring proper labeling and logging in compliance with hospital standards.

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Experience in phlebotomy is essential.

Prior experience in a community health environment is preferred.

Completion of a recognized medical assistant program accredited by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively; adept at maintaining an organized filing system.

Proficient in PC applications, including Excel and Microsoft Word, as well as OASIS and EPIC systems.

Experience with computerized appointment scheduling is necessary.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing stress effectively.

Exceptional interpersonal skills for handling sensitive interactions with patients, colleagues, and physicians with discretion and courtesy.

Physical capability to manage stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies and equipment.
