Cytologist - Diagnostic Specialist

The Cytologist plays a vital role in the detection, differentiation, and diagnosis of diseases in gynecological and non-gynecological samples. As a diagnostic specialist, you will assist the pathologist in fine needle aspirates and perform microscopic examinations on specimens.
Key Responsibilities- Detection and Identification: Perform microscopic examinations on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, differentiating and identifying cells using established cytologic criteria.
- Provisional Diagnosis: Detect, select, and clearly mark cells most representative of pathological processes present and prepare a provisional diagnosis for all cases referred to the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
- Specimen Management: Interpret acceptability of specimens received for testing, communicate correct specimen collection, transport requirements, and specimen unacceptability issues to appropriate caregivers.
- Fine Needle Aspirates: Assist in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates following standard operating procedure.
- Troubleshooting and Resolution: Exercise initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving QC failure, informing next level of authority as necessary and documenting all actions taken.
- Certification: Obtain Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date.
- Education and Experience: Meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist.
- Situation: Work in an indoor environment with occasional exposure to moderate noise levels.
- Physical Demands: Sit continuously (67-100%), handle/finger/feel continuously (67-100%), see continuously (67-100%), hear continuously (67-100%).
