Cash Handling Specialist

About the Job

This is a full-time position that requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with one year of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience. You should have basic knowledge of branch operation activities, terminology, and products and services, as well as state and federal banking compliance regulations and Bank operational policies.

You'll be responsible for performing routine branch and customer services duties, accepting retail and commercial checking and savings deposits, processing loan payments, cashing checks and savings withdrawals, promoting business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services.

  • Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver superior customer service by reinforcing the application of best practices through your example and follow-through with involved customers and employees.
  • Receive retail and commercial checking and savings deposits by verifying all necessary documents are in proper form and issuing receipts.
  • Cash checks, savings withdrawals; confirm all necessary documents are properly authorized, in proper form, and within authorized limits; make decisions when questionable items are presented for cashing.
  • Operate a computer terminal to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority.
  • Issue official checks. Assist with night depository duties; log bags; process deposits; make change orders; issue receipt and return bags to customers.
  • May serve as backup courier.
  • Cross-sell the Bank's other products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff as indicated.
  • Perform safe deposit duties by controlling access and assisting customers.
  • Receive and process stop payment and hold orders. Accept loan and installment payments.
  • Balance cash drawer daily and verify cash being returned to the vault.
  • Provide effective customer service and assist in resolving problems within given authority. Record, file, microfilm, update information, prepare wire transfers, and sort mail or reports as required. Answer telephones and direct callers to proper Bank personnel.
  • May gather data and process various reports (e.g., currency transaction, returned items, overdrafts, callbacks, etc.) ATM deposits, credit ratings, certifications, change orders, and deposit slip corrections.
  • May assist in opening and closing the vault daily; assist in balancing vault currency and coin.
  • Type routine letters, reports, and forms. Maintain files, copies, and faxes documents, and order and distribute supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • One year of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of branch operation activities, terminology, and products and services.
  • State and federal banking compliance regulations and Bank operational policies.
  • Basic skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, mainframe computer system, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Basic typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
  • Basic math skills to calculate interest and balance accounts, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with routine problems involving multiple facets and variables in standardized situations.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with general supervision while performing duties.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time, operate a computer, and telephone.
  • This position requires writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 50 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (close, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.

We offer a competitive salary range of $40,000 - $60,000 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications. This position requires working at least 35 hours per week and may involve working varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
