Position Summary

The IaaS Systems and Storage & Engineering (ISSE) team operates within the Operations & Infrastructure technology division. Our vision, mission, and purpose can be summarized as follows:

Mission: Design and construct dependable and secure infrastructure for various workloads in Private/Hybrid Cloud, leveraging innovative technologies at optimal costs.

Purpose: Enhance the innovation speed of developers while minimizing infrastructure maintenance burdens. These principles guide our daily efforts towards Visa's overarching vision of being the best payment solution for everyone, everywhere.

We are in search of a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with proven expertise in developing highly secure and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions to bolster Visa's advanced Global Payment systems and optimize operational efficiency. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge in specific technical domains, including relevant processes, methodologies, standards, products, and frameworks. A significant background in guiding the design and execution of infrastructure solutions on major public clouds such as AWS, GCP, and Azure is essential. Familiarity with DevOps principles and experience in infrastructure as code and large-scale automation are crucial. The candidate will also establish, promote, and provide foundational services for Visa's public cloud deployment, collaborating closely with stakeholders to design and implement solutions that ensure robust security, cost optimization, and enhanced developer productivity. Full ownership of the solutions provided to our clients is expected, ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of cloud-based applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Cloud Architects and fellow engineers to actively contribute to our public cloud strategy and standards.
  • Design and implement agile, innovative cloud infrastructure and management solutions that leverage technological advancements for cost efficiency, standardization, and commoditization.
  • Adopt a cloud-native approach for developing new solutions, aligning with business objectives and requirements while integrating with existing systems.
  • Identify and utilize standard toolsets to simplify complexity and further operational goals for extensive automation across the organization.
  • Work with the team to enhance the cloud ecosystem, establish standards, and integrate infrastructure management domains - including logging, monitoring, configuration management, and orchestration.
  • Promote continuous, iterative improvements in our processes, technology, tools, and automation to achieve objectives.
  • Incorporate security measures into all project stages - design, implementation, and operations.
  • Define, document, and maintain standard designs and processes, ensuring documentation is updated with each modification or change.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to peers and the operations team on public cloud solution architecture, design, and delivery.
  • Mentor junior team members to enhance team competencies and skills.
This position operates in a hybrid model, allowing employees to alternate between remote and office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office a set number of days each week, based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical or other relevant engineering field.

• 7+ years of experience as a DevOps or Cloud infrastructure engineer automating infrastructure development & deployment.

• Solid understanding of various AWS/GCP/Azure services such as networking, compute, database, etc.

• Extensive experience designing, building, and running production systems in the cloud or migrating to the cloud, practicing infrastructure as code, automated testing, autoscaling, and self-healing.

• Experience in infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform and Pulumi and configuration management tools such as Ansible.

• Experience managing production container ecosystems - Docker, Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Istio or Linkerd), CNI (Calico, Cilium).

• Experience with cloud-native monitoring and APM tools such as AWS Cloudwatch, GCP Cloud Operations Suites, and Azure Monitor.

• Familiarity with security tools and standard methodologies such as CIS Benchmarking, OS hardening, vulnerability scanning, and system auditing.

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently to solve complex engineering challenges. Make independent judgments and decisions within established guidelines.

• Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills conducive to collaboration. Able to work effectively in a global matrix management environment.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies based on departmental needs.

Travel Requirements: This position may require travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The role will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
