Job Overview

The Deputy General Counsel-Healthcare position at Stanford University offers a unique opportunity to lead a team of experienced healthcare attorneys. This role requires providing business, transactional, employment, and regulatory legal advice to various entities within the university, including Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, and Stanford Medicine Partners.

About the Role

This is an immediate opening for a full-time attorney who will report directly to the Vice President and General Counsel. The successful candidate must have experience advising executives on complex healthcare regulatory and transactional issues. Additionally, they should be skilled at mentoring attorneys and working collaboratively with other in-house attorneys and outside counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of healthcare attorneys in providing legal advice on a wide variety of legal and regulatory issues facing academic medical centers.
  • Develop transactional structures to enable hospitals and medical foundations to achieve their business goals while minimizing legal risk and complexity.
  • Advise on healthcare regulatory issues, including licensing and accreditation, healthcare reimbursement, privacy, and antitrust laws.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel in numerous areas, including information technology and managed care contracts.
  • Oversee development and management of hospital legal budgets.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, preferably in both a law firm and an academic medical center setting. They should also be a member of the California Bar or able to become one shortly. Requirements include excellence in academic credentials, writing, analytical, and communication skills as well as excellent judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems.

Benefits and Salary

The expected pay range for this position is $350,000 - $500,000 per annum. Stanford University provides a comprehensive rewards package, which includes benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
