Litigation Paralegal Job Description

This role is part of our Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment (LAE) practice group based in our Miami office. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will provide support to lawyers during the entire litigation process, from initial information-gathering to trial and archival of case material. You will work under the supervision of the responsible lawyer(s) and be responsible for maintaining correspondence and discovery, supporting hearings and trials, cite-checking briefs, and assisting with settlements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and finalize pleadings in accordance with applicable state and Federal rules for filing with the court.
  • Assist with document retrieval, review, organization, and production.
  • Maintain case pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and research for large-volume cases.
  • Cite-check and edit legal documents.
  • Maintain a database of client advisories.
  • Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases.
  • Conduct legal research and write concise memoranda to summarize results.
  • Organize and prepare exhibit lists and/or privilege logs.
  • Coordinate with the Advanced Client Data Solutions team on initial case consultation and data management.
  • Coordinate work with outside document/litigation vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines.
  • Ensure all vendors engaged are in compliance with the firm's security protocol, bidding process, and conflicts and confidentiality requirements.
  • Validate data and manage systems utilizing standard operating processes, as required.
  • Maintain orderly filing and organization scheme for media.
  • Closely monitor project/case status and provide routine status reports, including task completion reports and data delivery schedules.
  • Train attorneys and staff on the use of litigation support applications.
  • Assist with trial site preparation and attend trials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Participate in our Responsible Business program.
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with software such as Relativity, Case Map, Case Notebook, TimeMap, Sanction, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Nuance, Opus2, LiveNote, FTP Transfer Protocol, Encryption Protocol, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel & Access.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Strong client service skills, with the ability to engage with different departments to plan and problem-solve.
  • Ability to meet changing deadlines and balance competing demands.
  • Ability to assess the cost/benefit of a course of action and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to effectively present routine information in one-on-one or small group situations.
Education, Certifications, and/or Experience:
  • Two (2)+ years of litigation experience in a law firm or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Working knowledge of litigation support data applications and databases, preferably in a law firm or corporate law department setting.
  • Experience with electronic discovery support, including coordination of vendor and data management for both in-house and web-based database platforms from data collection through data production, is a plus.
  • Paralegal certificate desirable.
Work Hours:

Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., including one hour for lunch. Must be available for occasional overtime as needed.
