Overview: The Director of Human Resources is a pivotal leadership position responsible for defining and executing the strategic direction for human resources at InsideHigherEd. The Director oversees a broad range of functions including recruitment, compliance with equal employment opportunity and ADA regulations, classification, compensation, personnel processing, performance management, training, HRIS, employee relations, benefits administration, and payroll coordination. Close collaboration with the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion is vital to align with and promote the organization's diversity initiatives, fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning:
    • Formulate and implement a strategic HR plan that aligns with InsideHigherEd's mission and objectives.
    • Lead the enhancement and strategic utilization of the Human Capital Management System to improve operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
    • Conduct regular organizational assessments to identify and address HR needs, ensuring the organization remains adaptive and forward-thinking.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee the full operations of the Human Resources Department, managing a team of professionals while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in HR management.
    • Evaluate service delivery methods, recommending adjustments to staffing and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Supervise, mentor, and assess HR staff, promoting professional development and a high-performance culture.
    • Collaborate with external partners to ensure effective delivery of HR services and programs.
  • Policy Development and Compliance:
    • Create and implement HR policies and procedures that support organizational objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Guarantee adherence to equal employment opportunity, ADA, and other relevant regulations.
    • Manage employee benefits and leave programs, ensuring compliance with legal standards and alignment with employee needs.
  • Collaboration and Diversity Initiatives:
    • Work alongside the Diversity and Inclusion Vice President to promote and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the organization.
    • Advocate for the organization's Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Plans, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Training and Staff Development:
    • Lead the design and execution of training programs to enhance staff skills and performance.
    • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the HR department and across the organization.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of HR-related data, ensuring data integrity and leveraging insights for strategic planning.
    • Conduct organizational studies and prepare comprehensive reports to support institutional decision-making.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Contribute to the development and management of the HR budget, ensuring responsible resource management.
    • Identify opportunities for cost-effective solutions in HR operations without compromising service quality.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field; a master's degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive human resources experience, including significant supervisory responsibilities and strategic HR leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in diversity and inclusion principles and their practical application within an organizational context.
  • Proven ability to think strategically while effectively managing daily operational responsibilities.
  • Experience in higher education is highly preferred.
