Job Summary

This role is responsible for applying advanced technical knowledge and skills to perform laboratory testing, ensure clinical relevance, and solve complex problems. The successful candidate will serve as a department resource, assisting with compliance with laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory requirements. May be responsible for collecting, receiving, and processing biological specimens into the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform testing accurately and efficiently, adhering to established policies and performance standards. Responsible for startup, calibration, and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Participate in problem-solving activities within the department, utilizing advanced decision-making skills.
  2. Recognize, validate, and assist in monitoring abnormal patient and/or QC results of testing. Ensure accuracy of test results. Participate in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. Contribute to department and LSA/SQL System process improvement and quality assurance activities.
  3. Monitor and control inventory, providing financial data for the department. Participate in process improvements to decrease costs, improve productivity, and enhance service.
  4. Contribute to additional department/System projects. Participate in training of department employees. Actively participate on at least one committee or team or be involved in at least one special project identified with department management.
  5. Act as a department resource, providing educational information to internal and external customers. Demonstrate advanced verbal and written communication skills. Attend and participate in staff meetings. Promote a constructive environment that encourages learning and development.
  6. May process and/or prepare patient samples as required, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a nationally recognized credentialing agency.
  • Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in departments where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MLS/MT or categorical certification.
  • Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
  • Previous experience with phlebotomy and processing.
