About the Role

KurzSolutions is seeking a skilled Psychiatrist to join our team in a correctional facility setting. As a Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing mental health services to inmates, including crisis interventions, clinical evaluations, and treatment planning.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct crisis interventions and face-to-face interviews with mentally ill patient-inmates
  • Assess the needs of inmates through initial mental health evaluations and incorporate criminal, psychiatric, and substance abuse case histories
  • Perform suicide risk evaluations with clinical rigor and proper documentation
  • Contribute to comprehensive treatment planning through participation in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings
  • Ensure thorough record-keeping by documenting all care provided
  • Monitor inmate progress using structured progress notes
  • Conduct mental status exams (MSE) to evaluate mental health status during clinical interviews
  • Review and diagnose psychiatric patients to determine treatment effectiveness and appropriateness
  • Provide clinical consultation to psychiatric staff on complex cases
  • Prescribe medication as appropriate, following formulary guidelines or obtaining necessary approvals
  • Determine and prescribe changes in treatment based on ongoing assessment
  • Adhere to mandated reporting requirements for California Psychiatrists
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with patients' families and caretakers
  • Collaborate with primary care medicine to address co-occurring medical conditions
  • Conduct clinical rounds and review patient progress
  • Serve periodically as psychiatrist-of-the-day for on-call duties during weekends and off-hours
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of persons committed to the correctional facility
  • Analyze data from audits to ensure program compliance and identify areas for improvement
  • Provide input and assist in implementing new treatment programs as directed
  • Utilize partial telemedicine for conducting appointments electronically from the provider's office
Requirements
  • Must have an MD/DO degree
  • Must have a minimum of twelve continuous months of experience within the last three years, performing services similar in scope to those defined herein
  • Internships do not count toward the required experience
  • Must have a full, unrestricted license to practice in the state of California
