Younker 8 is a 23-bed Medical Surgical unit that provides an enriching learning experience while caring for patients with a variety of diagnoses specializing in pulmonary conditions. Collaborative Care Model
UnityPoint Health is embarking on an exciting and innovative care delivery model. Collaborative Care enables all members of the multidisciplinary care team to practice at the top of their scope, leveraging their unique skills, training, and strengths.
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in this care model, you will provide care for a specified group of patients. With the support of an RN and other team members of the care group, you will perform tasks or skills within your scope of practice, including but not limited to:
- Providing safe and reliable patient-centered care.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members.
- Completing vital signs, intake and output, glucose monitoring, and activities of daily living.
- Setting up and maintaining equipment on the unit and in patient rooms, as appropriate.
- Promoting mobility by assisting the patient with transfers, repositioning, and ambulation.
- Supporting patients' nutritional needs, may include feeding a patient.
- Documenting in the electronic medical record.

Responsibilities:
- PCTs will perform patient care and treatments under supervision of a RN. Provides and documents care including, but not limited to, activities of daily living, mobility, specimen collection, and respiratory support activities as directed by the RN.
- Possess the ability to lift, move, position, and transport patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of care, patient and employee safety, and customer service.
- Team members under the age of 18 may not independently operate mechanical lift equipment.
Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years old or older.
- Minimum of 75-hour Certified Nursing Aid certification required. Indicate on your application which CNA certification you possess (75-hour, 120-hour, or 150-hour). Only applications with this information indicated will be considered.
- Dept of Labor Level III (Medium) Work. Candidates must successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment strength and agility test at Medium Level of Work.
