About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Trade Specialist I to join our team at West Virginia University. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior appearance of our institutional buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Respond to building maintenance requests and diagnose and repair various equipment as needed.
  • Clean and maintain the interior appearance of all buildings, including classrooms, offices, laboratories, and public areas.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms and kitchenettes, including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, refrigerators, stoves, fixtures, mirrors, etc.
  • Operate, service, and maintain all grounds equipment, such as trucks, tractors, large seeders, riding mowers, snow removal, skid loaders, tilt bed trucks, and steep slope mowing equipment.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years experience in general trades building maintenance experience in the areas of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades.
  • Ability to read blueprints, operate a computer, and follow OSHA guidelines and associated codes.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, parts, and materials, as well as the ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability to lift materials over 75 pounds, bend, stoop, walk, crawl, etc., and work in a lift 30 feet off the ground.
