Job Title: School Nurse

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide healthcare services for students enrolled in our Special Education Center Schools.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, documenting, and managing the health care needs of all students. They will also promote wellness and disease prevention for staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform required health care services, including care for injuries, acute illnesses, medical procedures, and medication administration.
  • Provide screening and referral for health conditions.
  • Offer specialized first aid and emergency care when necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive health records for all students.
  • Complete all state-mandated screenings.
  • Provide direct nursing service for students with special health needs.
  • Develop and implement a wellness program for students in the school.
  • Offer health information and resources for staff.
  • Manage applications for Free and Reduced Lunch and complete all state-required paperwork.
  • Maintain communication of a medical nature with parents/guardians.
  • Follow all administrative policies and rules governing students.
  • Provide required medical information for IEPs and reevaluation reports.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, adhering to AIU policies, building procedures, and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers.
  • Utilize email, Microsoft Office programs, and student informational systems to manage communication, information, and records.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Pupil Personnel.
Requirements:
  • PDE School Nurse Certificate (Preferred)
  • RN (Required)
  • Experience working with students with disabilities (Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, business, and educational partners.
  • Ability to manage medical emergencies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
  • Ability and experience working as a member of a team.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.
Additional Requirements:
  • Current Act 114, Act 34, and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  • School Personnel Health Record and TB Test (Form H must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date).
