Job Summary

The RN Clinical House Supervisor provides patient-centered, specialized, and evidence-based nursing care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education, and advocacy. This role serves as the onsite hospital administrative authority in the absence of hospital or nursing administration, working with the director of nursing, unit directors, managers, and the hospital administrator on-call to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight of acute patient care resource allocation, unit operations, and patient flow to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Serve as a role model of organizational service standards, mission, vision, and values, and assist team members in understanding how their day-to-day jobs contribute to ThedaCare strategy.
  • Represent the organization in various services, including employee health, human resources, infection prevention, health information, and risk management, to ensure service availability.
  • Participate in committee work, leadership meetings, and projects to contribute to strategic planning and improve quality.
  • Communicate practice alerts, policy changes, and educational opportunities to team members during rounds and at bed huddles.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including medical and facility codes, and facilitate the movement of patients to a higher level of care as necessary.
  • Provide consultation and maintain positive relationships with physicians and other inter-professional team members, collaborate to problem solve, and escalate appropriately to ensure safe patient care.
  • Ensure patients are placed expeditiously to the right level of care, monitor patient flow, and report opportunities to improve quality.
  • Work with direct access to ensure the smooth inter-facility transfer of patients to and from our facilities.
  • Provide accurate reports and hand-offs to oncoming shifts, director of nursing, and hospital administrator on-call to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Coordinate activities and ensure continual compliance with regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission, CMS, and AHCA.
  • Demonstrate, anticipate, and proactively manage risks to prevent crises.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain BSN within five years for current ThedaCare RNs.
  • Current Wisconsin RN license.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Three years of clinical experience.
  • Two years of experience leading projects, a council/committee, and/or clinical improvement work.
Work Environment

This role requires frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The position also involves standing and/or walking for extended periods, transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another, and occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients.
