Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Design Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical manufacturing support to our programs from early development phases through transition to production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in manufacturing and test requirements development, design for manufacturing activities, manufacturing process development, and factory capabilities analysis to ensure factory readiness and improve product producibility.
  • Leverage technical knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, product technologies, factory requirements, and business processes to establish and execute the manufacturing plan and influence technical program decisions to support the overall program value stream.
  • Act as the manufacturing and producibility authority within the program, establishing engineering design requirements tailored to manufacturing processes.
  • Manage large-scale design, control, and improvements to the manufacturing process, identifying and resolving constraints across the program.
  • Develop Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool, and fixture designs.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving to factory engineers, leading Continuous Improvement through design and process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to operators, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data-driven decision making.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing process control and performance monitoring, leading cross-factory strategic improvement projects and leading cross-functional program strategic initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and train other MDEs, PEs, and/or MEs.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to identify, reduce, and eliminate cost, quality, and schedule constraints through technical engagements.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply CORE principles and techniques.
  • Technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE).
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines.
  • Innovative mindset that drives continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and keeps pace with advances in technology.
  • Experience interpreting and improving technical drawings.
  • Experience communicating technical information to different audiences.
  • Experience with technical writing.
  • Experience with MRP systems.
  • Experience leading teams or projects.
  • Experience teaching, training, and/or mentoring manufacturing systems and processes to junior engineers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PPT, Project, Word).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and motivational communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong organization skills with fine attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Readiness Assessments.
  • Current DoD security clearance (secret).
  • Experience with processing of Government Furnished Material (GFM) or Equipment (GFE).
  • Understanding of the project management lifecycle.
  • Understanding of the DoD Program Acquisition and Phases.
  • Special Access for some positions.

The salary range for this role is $96,000 USD - $200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
