Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Victim Advocate to join our team at the Prosecutor's Office in Holland, MI. The successful candidate will provide critical support services to victims of crime, ensuring they receive the necessary information and resources to navigate the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide initial victim interviews, crisis intervention, education, and referrals to community resources.
  • Coordinate with bond screening officers to ensure no contact with victims and other specific provisions.
  • Manage victim rights cases pending in assigned court jurisdictions or specialty areas.
  • Identify and open cases covered by the Crime Victims' Rights Act, notifying victims of pending charges and providing information on their statutory rights.
  • Process returned victim impact statements and correspondence, updating victim data as needed.
  • Notify victims and their families of court proceedings and results, responding to questions or concerns regarding case status or court procedure.
  • Respond to victim inquiries and concerns during the criminal justice process, providing short-term crisis intervention and referrals to human services agencies.
  • Schedule appointments for victims or their families to meet with attorney staff members upon request.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree combined with two years of progressively responsible experience in case management services in criminal justice or court services.
  • Good working knowledge of the Michigan Crime Victims Rights Act, the Michigan Crime Victim Notification Network, and the criminal and civil court process.
  • Ability to interact positively and objectively with victims, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, law enforcement officers, and members of the general public from diverse backgrounds.
