Job Summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled Hydrologic Technician to join our team. As a Hydrologic Technician, you will be responsible for collecting and analyzing hydrologic data, installing and maintaining gaging stations, and performing routine field activities for hydraulic studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze hydrologic data from various sources, including field measurements and remote sensing.
  • Install and maintain gaging stations, including setting up field stations and calibrating equipment.
  • Perform routine field activities for hydraulic studies, including survey levels of gaging sites and recognizing and solving deviations in data.
  • Review data from peers for accuracy and recommend adjustments to obtain accurate data collection.
  • Use computers to monitor canal structures, canal levels, and reservoir levels.

Requirements

  • One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, performing at least 4 of the following: assisting with installing sensors to collect data, aiding with collecting hydrological field measurements, assisting with providing information to peers, assisting with preparing recurring reports, or assisting with interpreting drawings and schematics of equipment.
  • Successful completion of at least one full year (18 semester hours/27 quarter hours) of graduate level education leading to a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as science, engineering, or industrial technology.
  • Combination of education and experience, with a total of at least 100 percent to qualify.

Working Conditions

  • Regular and recurring solo driving occurs to perform field work, which accounts for 75% of the position's time.
  • May operate motorboats and equipment, such as a forklift, for which certification is required.
  • Must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times.
