Job Summary:
Murfreesboro City Schools is seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse - PRN to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will be responsible for providing medical care and support to students with various health needs.
Responsibilities:
- Administer medical procedures and maintenance health treatments within the school, including tracheostomy suctioning, catheterization, gastronomy tube feeding, blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and nebulizer treatments.
- Coordinate documentation as needed for the delivery of services, including physical orders and parent releases.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as required.
- Maintain current documentation on students with health-related issues.
- Oversee proper storage of medication.
- Provide health-related updates on students to staff and parents in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
- Administer medications to students who are unable to self-administer.
- Work cooperatively with staff and administration to support the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the school system.
- Provide first aid and maintain health records of students.
- Assist in programs for the care of students with disabilities.
- Perform other job-related tasks as required.
Requirements:
- Current LPN license as required by the state.
- Ability to work with students with various health needs, including those with physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and chronic illnesses.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and work orders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Physical ability to lift and transfer students weighing up to 50 pounds, and to lift and transfer students weighing over 50 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a variety of school environments, including classrooms, hallways, and medical facilities.
- Exposure to foul odors, loud noises, bodily fluids, temperature changes, and combative students.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent distractions and interruptions.
Education and Experience:
- Current valid license by the State of Tennessee Department of Health Related Boards as a Licensed Nurse.
- Maintain continuing education requirements as required by the Tennessee Health Related Boards for Licensed Nurses and Murfreesboro City Schools professional development requirements.
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary and benefits recommended by the Finance and Administrative Service Director and approved by the Director of Schools.
- 200-day calendar.
- Non-exempt.
