Job Title: Electrical Engineer I

At KFI Engineers, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer I to join our Utilities & Central Energy (UCE) group. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the successful execution of projects, providing technical and engineering excellence, and delivering high-quality work to our customers.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer I will be responsible for designing and developing electrical power systems, including generation and distribution. You will work closely with Senior Electrical Engineers to learn and develop design skills, prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications, and perform power system studies. Additionally, you will review and approve contractor submittals, conduct construction observation, and provide field support during startup and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electrical power systems, including generation and distribution
  • Prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications
  • Perform power system studies, including arc fault hazard analysis, short circuit, load flow, protective device coordination, and harmonics studies
  • Review and approve contractor submittals
  • Conduct construction observation and provide field support during startup and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment
  • Develop labor/cost estimates for assigned scope of work
  • Support the business development process through input to proposals and meeting with prospective customers
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong electrical fundamentals knowledge or experience
  • Project experience and/or working knowledge of Process, Instrumentation & Controls through co-ops or internships
  • Willingness to develop in-depth knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, NESC, ANSI/IEEE, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to assimilate a range of ideas, programs, or alternatives into a set of recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with others and enable effective interaction with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, influencing skills, and has demonstrated the maturity and self-confidence to work with colleagues and customers
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility with customers and other stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Willingness to pursue Professional Engineering (PE) certification
Working Conditions:

Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
