CommonSpirit Health is seeking a full-time WIC Program Specialist for our WIC Clinic.
We provide a Saturday clinic once a month to accommodate clients who cannot attend during the week.
Job Summary:
This position involves conducting nutritional evaluations, certifying clients for the WIC program, and prescribing tailored food packages in accordance with federal and state regulations.
The role includes offering basic health education to WIC clients, covering topics such as community resources, nutrition fundamentals, and lactation support.
Responsibilities also include documenting services, scheduling client appointments, and delivering other essential WIC services. The specialist will conduct initial client orientations and financial screenings while contributing to the ongoing assessment of client needs.
Knowledge of community health nutrition, strong customer service abilities, and adherence to relevant policies and standards are essential for this role.
Essential Job Functions:
Certifies clients for WIC program eligibility through comprehensive Nutritional Assessments, utilizing federally mandated questions to identify qualifying risk factors.
Prescribes customized food packages for clients.
Provides foundational health education on topics such as nutrition, avoiding harmful substances during pregnancy, basic lactation guidance, and information on community resources.
Schedules appointments for WIC clients and maintains communication, including appointment reminders and follow-ups.
Implements federal and state WIC program guidelines.
Cultural Sensitivity and Competence:
Demonstrates effective communication strategies and understands how cultural backgrounds can influence communication, collaboration, and the delivery of care and services.
Patient Population Served:
Exhibits knowledge and skills pertinent to the specific populations served by the department.
Performs related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one year of related experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge and abilities, OR
Recognized Paraprofessional CPA by fulfilling all of the following criteria:
High school diploma/GED;
Completion of training on WIC certification, nutrition principles, and education within six months of hire;
Completion of Minimum Professional Competencies for WIC within twelve months of hire;
Participation in ongoing monthly in-services on nutrition-related topics following the date of hire.
License/Certification:
Current certification as a Medical Assistant-Registered in the state within ninety days of hire.
