A competitive salary of $70,000 to $90,000 per year awaits the ideal candidate for this Sanitation Manager role at Smithfield Foods.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring sanitation activities at our plant are executed according to SSOPs, addressing any deficiencies, and taking proactive measures to prevent issues that may compromise USDA regulatory compliance and the production of safe and wholesome meat products.

Key Responsibilities

Sanitation System Compliance

  • Verify all sanitation activities are properly designed, performed as intended, and documented to ensure a clean facility and ongoing performance evaluations that prove safe and wholesome products meeting sales and marketing goals.
  • Makes defendable decisions to ensure USDA regulatory and company objective compliance without unjustified decreases in operational productivity or efficiency.
  • Ensures low incidence of pre-op NRs, shelf life failures, and microbial swabbing failures while scoring well on internal and external sanitation audits.
  • Conducts regular meetings with the plant's sanitation service provider, plant management, and/or USDA to discuss sanitation findings.

RODAC Program Maintenance

  • Measures equipment cleaning and facility sanitation performance at pre-op via RODAC in the Smithfield system.
  • Responsible for administration of the plant's RODAC program, including distribution of site sampling lists, compilation and analysis of results, and follow-up on unacceptable results until satisfactory performance is achieved.
  • Works closely with the Plant Purchasing Agent to ensure RODAC supplies are continuously available.

Employee Training

  • Conducts pre-op inspection training with plant staff members prior to their first pre-op inspection.
  • Provides feedback to Plant Management on the performance of pre-op inspection staff so that corrections can be made when necessary.
  • Develops and fosters a strong working relationship with the USDA.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field, along with 2+ years of progressive experience in professional sanitation or meat industries. Leadership skills, knowledge of sanitation science, and understanding of USDA, FSIS, HACCP, and SSOP requirements are essential.

This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to travel up to 10% of the time, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships with colleagues and maintain a positive work atmosphere.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The job requires working in a plant environment with varying conditions, including wet or humid areas, extreme temperatures, exposure to chemicals, and moderate to loud noise levels. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and specific vision abilities are also required.
