Position Overview

As a key member of our design team, the primary role of the Airport Engineer involves the planning and design of both small and large airport infrastructure. This includes responsibilities such as stormwater management, pavement assessments, airfield pavement design, site and facility planning, commercial airport development layouts, utility system design, and other related engineering services. Additionally, the role encompasses the generation of engineering reports, construction documentation, project specifications, and the assembly of permit applications at various governmental levels, alongside providing oversight during construction phases.

Key Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
  • Collaborate with team members on various design elements to achieve project objectives involving standard plans, surveys, investigations, and structures.
  • Prepare comprehensive project documentation, including plans, specifications, and engineering estimates, by collecting and organizing project data.
  • Evaluate and adapt standard techniques and procedures to project assignments, formulating solutions with guidance.
  • Plan and coordinate detailed engineering tasks, managing multiple projects efficiently to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Assist in defining project scopes, tasks, budgets, and timelines.
  • Contribute to proposals, including bid documents, project reports, and studies.
  • Receive general direction on key objectives while obtaining guidance on complex projects and new approaches.
  • Engage with clients, contractors, and project team members through collaboration and communication.
  • Participate in project meetings, presenting specific engineering aspects of assignments.
  • Work hours may occasionally extend to nights and weekends with little notice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience, preferably in Aviation, Transportation, or Site Development.
  • Experience in construction administration is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of FAA Advisory Circulars and Federal/State funding processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the airport community in Florida is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, management, and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive client information.
  • Capability to perform effectively in a high-pressure office environment.
  • Proficient in English, including spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
Licensure
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Florida Professional Engineer licensure or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
Work Environment

This position typically takes place in a clean and comfortable office setting, with occasional site visits in outdoor environments.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee may frequently sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, or perform manual tasks. The role may require lifting and moving items up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
