HVAC Mechanic I Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic I to join our team at the Department of Adult Correction. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of our heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems at our facilities.
  • Maintain and install new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment, including charging system refrigerants, replacing bearings, seals, and filters, and adjusting and balancing the distribution system.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems, determine necessary materials and tools, and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs.
  • Perform electronic/pneumatic equipment maintenance, testing, and repair.
  • Train and/or supervise the work of inmate helpers.
Requirements
  • Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution, and control systems.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
