We are currently seeking a full-time, permanent Cybersecurity Analyst – Tier 3 (Cloud) to become an integral part of our skilled and dynamic team.

In the role of Cybersecurity Analyst – Tier 3 (Cloud), you will be essential in protecting the digital assets of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and addressing potential cyber threats. Your main responsibility will involve supporting the Incident Response team in the investigation and resolution of advanced and intricate cyber incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the detection engineering team to implement and operationalize new cloud detection tools, including Azure Sentinel, AWS Guard Duty, and Netskope CASB.
  • Create comprehensive playbooks for cloud incident response.
  • Lead investigations and analyses of Tier 3 and escalated cybersecurity incidents, identifying attack patterns, determining root causes, and recommending remediation measures to prevent future incidents.
  • Act as a cloud subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 analysts during investigations.
  • Ensure meticulous documentation of incident response activities, including analyses, actions taken, and lessons learned, while collaborating with knowledge management teams to keep incident response playbooks current.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including forensics, threat intelligence, IT, and network administrators, to communicate technical information and incident updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement advanced security analytics use cases to detect and respond to sophisticated cyber threats in real-time.
  • Regularly monitor the performance of security analytics and automation processes, identifying areas for improvement and taking proactive measures to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Utilize Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platforms to streamline and automate incident response processes.
  • Support the training and mentoring of junior incident response staff.
  • Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and best practices, and actively participate in cybersecurity exercises and simulations to enhance incident response capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in large-scale IT projects.
  • 3+ years of experience in incident response within an enterprise-level Security Operations Center (SOC), including monitoring cloud environments.
  • A comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity principles and incident response methodologies, with a proactive approach to ensuring effective SOC operations in high-pressure situations.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, GCFA, CEH, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Strong experience with security technologies, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, and network monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with enterprise ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to identify issues, determine root causes, and devise solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to multiple roles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
