Role Overview

Under the guidance of the principal, English as a Second Language (ESL) educators are tasked with enhancing student performance. ESL educators assess students, evaluate language proficiency, design lesson plans, exemplify best practices, cultivate relationships, troubleshoot challenges, and tailor instruction to meet the language acquisition needs of learners. They are data-informed and investigate innovative teaching methodologies. ESL educators collaborate with Academic Coaches to continuously refine their instructional techniques.

Effective ESL educators will exhibit integrity, uphold a strong work ethic, and take responsibility for their actions. They will align with the school's foundational principles and comprehend the distinct challenges faced by immigrant and refugee populations.
  • Encourage a learning environment that recognizes the strengths of all students and empowers them to reach their academic aspirations.
  • Assess students to determine suitable ESL instruction.
  • Keep precise records and utilize data to inform instructional choices.
  • Deliver individualized, small-group, and large-group instruction for designated students.
  • Collaborate with general education instructors.
  • Create and implement highly effective lessons that enhance students' English proficiency.
  • Employ curriculum and resources that reflect the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the student body.
  • Set learning objectives and collaboratively monitor students' progress towards these goals.
  • Actively involve families in the academic program.
  • Participate in ESL team meetings and/or academic leadership discussions.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance ESL instruction for students.
  • Guide and assist general education teachers in applying best practices for English acquisition.
  • Exemplify the RHINO Way, teaching students the RHINO Way through PBIS strategies.
  • Maintain a growth mindset and a positive demeanor; effectively address challenges.
  • Establish personal professional development objectives; engage in professional growth and coaching opportunities.
  • Stay informed about ESL programs and comply with all relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
