A Clinical Nurse Specialist plays a crucial role in comprehending complex medical histories, intricate surgical interventions, pain management strategies, and comprehensive nutritional support.

Your primary responsibilities will encompass:
- Delivering direct nursing care.
- Observing, documenting, and conveying patients' conditions as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implements and monitors patient care strategies.
  • Observes, documents, and communicates patient conditions as required.
  • Evaluates and updates care plans to ensure achievement of desired outcomes.
  • Acts as the primary coordinator for all disciplines involved in patient care.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing protocols.
  • Executes physician and nursing orders.
  • Assesses and coordinates discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluates educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and other specific concerns.
  • Provides educational materials and teaching as appropriate.
  • Validates and documents understanding of teaching by patients and families.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development through formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

Certification Requirements:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is required for those in Critical Care areas, to be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within one year for RNs in Children's Hospital and Rehabilitation settings, with specific exceptions noted for certain units.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on the specific nursing unit and patient population.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and responding appropriately.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting is required for acute care roles.
  • Experience in skilled nursing facilities or rehabilitation settings may also be considered.
  • Licensed military RN experience may be taken into account.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and coordination.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Requires normal corrected vision and hearing.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids is expected.
  • Physical demands exceed those for light work.

  • Adheres to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
