Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is a vital member of the radiation oncology team at Keck Medicine of USC. As a skilled healthcare professional, the LVN will provide high-quality patient care, working closely with physicians, staff, and patients to ensure seamless treatment and recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Registered Nurses in providing care for designated patients, utilizing the Nursing Process to provide therapeutic care.
  • Participate in assessing patient needs, managing side effects, and instituting preventative measures with a strong emphasis on patient education throughout all levels of radiation treatment and recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient flow and efficient treatment processes.
  • Provide direct patient care, including vital sign collection, patient histories, and basic secretarial and medical transcription duties.
  • Enter charges into the system in an accurate and timely fashion, handle telephone calls, and write correspondences as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and treatments as permitted by license, and perform first aid and CPR if needed.
  • Organize pharmacy refill requests for physician approval and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting to accomplish duties in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Req High school or equivalent
  • Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program
  • Req Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions to understand, follow and successfully perform duties in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Req Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word as well as Internet access and utilization.
  • Req Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
  • Req Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information
  • Req Able to make decisions effectively and with appropriate stakeholder input

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref 2 years Experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Pref 1 year One year in radiation oncology preferred.
  • Pref Bilingual is highly desirable.
  • Pref LVN - Intravenous Therapy Certification (CA DCA) IV certification

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN (CA DCA) Valid California Vocational Nursing license
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
