Job Responsibilities

The Med Surg RN role is pivotal in planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the ongoing care for assigned patients, delivering holistic nursing care while assisting management as needed.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Administering and directing nursing procedures and treatments based on established principles and practices.
  • Inserting IVs, administering IV medications, and initiating blood transfusions in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Monitoring and documenting patient responses to medications, IV therapies, and treatments.
  • Assessing patient signs and symptoms, documenting and reporting findings, and adjusting care as necessary.
  • Collaborating with physicians regarding patient progress and assisting during examinations and treatments.
  • Promptly notifying physicians of any changes in patient conditions.
  • Transcribing and checking physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Providing education to patients and families as required.
  • Leading nursing personnel and overseeing their performance.
  • Assisting patients with daily living activities such as bathing, positioning, and mobility.
  • Communicating clinical outcomes effectively with patients and families.
  • Participating in the orientation of new staff members.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Indiana or a compact license.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's Degree.
  • Preferred: 1 year of clinical/hospital RN experience.
  • BLS certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in fundamental nursing skills, including phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care in surgical settings.
