Job Description

Tangram Flex is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the role of Director of Engineering. The primary responsibilities of this position include providing strategic and tactical direction to engineering team members and supervisors, supporting engineering culture and business needs, and fostering the growth of individual team members through effective coaching and performance management.

This role requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in engineering management, team development, and strategic planning. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for engineering team assignments and program allocations, growing and hiring a high-performing technical team, participating on the Tangram Flex company leadership team, and leading Tangram's multi-skilled, cross-functional engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assignment and allocation of engineering team members to ensure program deliverables, financial revenue targets, and individual employee development needs are met.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Engineering Supervisors to empower them in their supervisory responsibilities, providing mentorship and training to develop a world-class engineering team.
  • Contribute to all parts of talent acquisition for the engineering team, including articulation of needs, candidate review, interviews, candidate selection, and onboarding.
  • Technical and personal engagement with the Engineering Team, Engineering Supervisors, Feature Team Leads, and Principal Investigators.
  • Conduct One-on-one engagement meetings with the Engineering Leadership team and Engineering Supervisors.
  • As a member of the Tangram Flex leadership team, contribute to strategic planning and prioritization alignment across the engineering team, disseminate communication throughout the engineering organization to ensure support and understanding of company strategic objectives within the engineering organization, and ensure alignment with and company mission and culture.
  • Review engineering team quarterly metrics, such as allocations vs billable hours, professional development/training needs, employee feedback and assessment data and trends, and any other team accountability data.
  • Conduct annual Engineering team performance assessment and compensation adjustments.
  • Support to Tangram customer efforts (as needed).
  • Support to Tangram product roadmap development and prioritization (as needed).
  • As a member of the Workforce Development Committee, support personal career development of Tangram team members and supervisors.
  • Identification of 'wobbles' in engineering team execution, and recommendation (to CTO) of adjustments needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years' professional experience in software or systems engineering.
  • Possess a current or recent U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Experience managing, supervising, leading, or mentoring individuals and small teams.
  • Passion for Tangram Flex company mission and culture.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that ensure collaborative and trusting relationships with all levels of the organization, including executive leadership and technical experts.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and listening skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written skills with attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or technical discipline in a related field.
  • Technical knowledge and experience, especially in software development and systems engineering.
  • Ability to work efficiently and perform multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
