The **Senior Accountant for SEC Reporting** plays a pivotal role within the Babcock & Wilcox Corporate Accounting team, taking charge of essential components of the SEC reporting framework. This includes the preparation of quarterly 10-Q filings, the annual 10-K report, and the comprehensive annual report. The Senior Accountant will also contribute to the earnings release and proxy processes, while providing assistance for various ad-hoc filings as required. This position involves substantial collaboration with multiple teams including Corporate Accounting & Consolidation, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Investor Relations, Communications, and Legal. The role is notably visible to senior leadership within Corporate Accounting, including the Corporate Controller. Please note that this is a hybrid position, requiring presence in the office three days a week.
- Facilitate the planning and creation of periodic SEC reporting documents, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, while supporting the earnings release, proxy process, and other necessary filings throughout the fiscal year.
- Oversee the preparation of all financial statement disclosures, ensuring they are substantiated with appropriate documentation and liaising directly with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
- Manage the distribution of draft documents to various internal and external parties, compiling and addressing feedback from external auditors, legal advisors, and executive management.
- Aid in the development of quarterly earnings materials, including executive scripts and investor presentations, through collaboration with Investor Relations and Corporate Communications teams.
- Assist in the preparation and review of XBRL tagging, utilizing an industry-leading tool.
- Collaborate with external auditors and internal contacts to ensure the precision and timely completion of SOX documentation, risk matrices, and test plans for related cycles.
- Engage in research on accounting matters and disclosures, conducting peer benchmarking analyses on disclosure trends and comment letters, and supporting other special projects as necessary.
- Complete, document, and communicate ad hoc projects and analyses requested by internal clients, including Senior and Executive Management.
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in a large publicly traded organization or a significant public accounting firm.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience and education.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- CPA certification.
- Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy, while maintaining a comprehensive perspective.
- Excellent organizational, process, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to interpret and apply technical accounting literature.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to partner and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience with Workiva Wdesk is preferred.
- Familiarity with accounting for Postretirement Benefit Plans is advantageous.
- Experience with ASC 606 disclosures, particularly regarding revenue recognition over time, is beneficial.
