Job Description

The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Bureau of Water & Sewer Operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our water supply system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze geothermal and excavating plans to ensure compliance with DEP rules and standards
  • Sort and triage applications to determine whether proposed drilling and/or excavation locations are within critical DEP infrastructure zones
  • Prepare written responses and reports to applicants
  • Utilize drilling and excavation rules, DEP standards, and other relevant guidelines to analyze plans
  • Maintain accurate records and complete data entry using automated office systems
  • Perform office tasks, including filing management, weekly/monthly reports, and responding to phone calls and emails
  • Assist in quality assurance of data files and documenting work procedures and methodologies
  • Work closely with supervisors and project personnel to maintain data consistency and task efficiency
  • Perform basic calculations using geometric, trigonometric, and algebraic principles
  • Attend meetings, prepare presentations, and respond to letters

Requirements:

  • Four-year high school diploma or equivalent, and two years of full-time experience as an engineering technician, or an Associate degree in engineering technology, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to two years of satisfactory experience
  • Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York
