Job Overview

Powder River Industries LLC is seeking a seasoned Senior Windows Engineer to join our team in Washington DC. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality support, implementation, and design services for Windows-based systems.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in Windows engineering to drive business success. You will work closely with other server engineers to troubleshoot issues, provide advanced knowledge and administration of Windows Active Directory, and develop and submit change requests and track completion for software upgrades and patches.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members on resolutions for complex technical issues and act as escalation point for support queries.
  • Provide expert-level administration of Windows Active Directory, including trusts, functional levels, and migrations.
  • Develop and submit change requests for software upgrades and patches, and track completion status.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, upgrade administrative tools and utilities, and configure new services as necessary.
  • Monitor system/server resources, including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Understand IIS and related web technologies, install, upgrade software, configure, and perform general system maintenance on servers and other systems.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and recommend corrective measures for server/systems issues.
  • Work with vendors to resolve system configuration problems and other technical issues.
  • Understand network and server design and suggest modifications to improve performance and reliability.
  • Record all relevant designs and implementation diagrams, schemas, and documents clearly and concisely.
  • Manage vulnerability reports and remediate as required.
  • Install SSL certificates on Windows.
  • Contribute to schedule development and metric collection as requested.
  • Contribute to process development within the functional area and where it intersects with other operational processes.

Requirements and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or System Administrator at a senior level.
  • Ability to interact effectively with high-level VIP officials.
  • Competence in working across all areas of system administration on the Microsoft stack.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong customer service skills to support novice to advanced users.
  • Experience with VMware infrastructure and knowledge of remote monitoring and change management.
  • Proficiency in SCCM and SCOM.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Active Directory Federation Services, Active Directory Certificate Services.
  • Expertise in creating, maintaining, and applying Group Policy.
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SfB, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Proficiency in VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter.
  • Knowledge of Citrix XenApp.
  • Skills in PowerShell, Windows Print Services, Windows File and Folder Sharing, and Windows Failover Clustering.
  • Must have a Top-Secret Clearance and be willing to maintain a polygraph; must also attain all necessary read-ins for work.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and a high attention to detail with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (desired).
  • Will be required to be on call and participate in surge support outside of normal business hours (EST). Estimated Salary: $160,000 - $165,000 annually.
