Job Title: Early Head Start Lead Teacher

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Early Head Start Lead Teacher to join our team at the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing all components of the Early Head Start program, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for infants and toddlers.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Plan and implement weekly and daily lesson plans in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act.
  • Ensure that all Early Head Start component areas are included in planning of lessons and classroom/outdoor environment.
  • Supervise Teacher Assistant/Aide to assist in planning and implementation of program objectives.
  • Collaborate with E/DM and HM to ensure that all developmental and health/sensory screenings are completed within 45 days of enrollment.
  • Use appropriate observation and ongoing assessment, and tracking to ensure positive child outcomes.
  • Ensure referrals are processed as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy classroom environment appropriate for infants/toddlers, and cleanliness of the facilities.
  • Work in collaboration with families to develop individual goals for all children.
  • Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their developmental level, interests, special needs, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Treat children and families with dignity and respect.
  • Help children develop social awareness appropriate for their age and developmental level.
  • Conduct parent conferences and home visits to share information with families on all areas of their child's development.
  • Possess knowledge of the Early Head Start program and be able to communicate the information to families and community.
  • Assist the E/DM in supervising the teaching staff and ensuring the smooth coordination of all classroom activities, staff and student interrelationships.
  • Assist the E/DM in training activities, and staff evaluations.
  • Encourage and support family involvement in all aspects of the Early Head Start program.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service trainings, and required trainings (CPR, CA/N, Food Handlers', etc.) each school year.
  • Actively participate in recommended trainings/classes for ongoing professional development and be able to share new information with staff.

**Requirements:**

  • Ability to assist and supervise infants/toddlers and ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Ability to help supervise, guide and facilitate learning for infants and toddlers.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis.
  • Knowledge of Birth-to-Three Early Childhood Education and Development.
  • Ability to be sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to infants, toddlers, and adults.
  • Ability to provide professional leadership and stability for program continuity.
  • Maintain program documentation in a timely manner as required by management and regulations.
  • Collaborate with E/DM to handle any staff and/or family issues that develop in a professional manner.
  • Follow chain of command for all conflict situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • A current child development associate (CDA) credential or have the ability to complete a CDA within 12 months of hire.
  • A baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education and two years of classroom teaching in a pre-school setting or any Head Start program is preferred or
  • An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and two years teaching experience in a pre-school setting or any Head Start program is also preferred
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start and at least one-year experience working in EHS.
  • One-year experience working in a supervisory position is desirable.
  • Valid Washington State Drivers license, must be insurable
  • First Aid/Infant and Child CPR required and Food Handlers permit
  • A physical exam with results in letter form that states person is free of communicable diseases (Negative TB test) by employment date
  • Communication skills: both verbal and written is necessary
  • No prior convictions of child-related offenses or any felonies. Background check to be conducted prior to employment date
  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Head Start Drug Free Workplace policies. Pre-Employment drug testing to be administer prior to employment

**Physical Requirements:**

  • Must be able to lift and carry a child 20+ pounds
  • Other Functional requirements:

(1) Moderate lifting, 15-40 pounds, moderate carrying over 10 pounds and light carrying under 10 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds

(2) Daily kneeling, stooping, bending and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs.

**Other Duties and Requirements:**

  • Availability to assume other duties within EHS as needed.
  • Provide for the physical needs of infants/toddlers, including diapering and feeding
  • Other duties as specified by managers
  • Reports to work at scheduled times and maintain a good attendance record ensure program stability and continuity of care, performs duties in a timely and professional manner; participates in all program activities as requested.
