Position Overview

Extropic Corp is seeking a Software Engineer focused on research and development to participate in our residency initiative. Our innovative hardware significantly enhances specific types of probabilistic inference, and residents will play a crucial role in advancing the software necessary for crafting these thermodynamic models and the engineering involved in training them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with experienced researchers and engineers to enhance our software ecosystem.
  • Develop and implement novel algorithms tailored to simulate our thermodynamic hardware.
  • Perform testing and experimentation to assess the performance of our thermodynamic models and various software solutions.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of our software infrastructure and provide internal support to researchers as needed.
Essential Qualifications
  • Proficiency in debugging, maintaining, and deploying Python packages.
  • Familiarity with scientific computing in Python.
  • Extensive experience with JAX.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment tools (e.g., GitHub actions).
  • Ability to write and design software documentation, utilizing standard tools (e.g., Sphinx and Read the Docs).
  • Understanding of probability theory and linear algebra.
  • Experience with infrastructure for machine learning experimentation and parallel/distributed training environments (e.g., Slurm, Weights & Biases, etc.).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Background in contributing to open-source projects related to machine learning or scientific frameworks.
  • Experience with numerical techniques (e.g., solving differential equations, Monte Carlo integration, automatic differentiation, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of computational Bayesian methods, including MCMC sampling, variational inference, and energy-based models.
  • Publications in machine learning or computational science journals.
