About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transportation Security Officer to join our team at the Transportation Security Administration. As a key member of our security team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of air travelers, airports, and aircraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screening and Security: Operate various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers, and prevent those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
  • Searches and Screening: Perform searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers, conducting bag searches, and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Terminal Security: Control terminal entry and exit points, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to secure areas.
  • Customer Service: Interact with the public, providing directions and responding to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Continuous Learning: Engage in continuous development of critical thinking skills, necessary to mitigate actual and potential security threats, by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship: Must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
  • Age: Must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application.
  • Selective Service: Selective Service registration is required.
  • Background Investigation: Must pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
  • Availability: Must be available to work various shifts and overtime, as needed.
  • Language Skills: Must be proficient in English (e.g., reading, writing, speaking, comprehending).
  • Travel: Mandatory travel for training and occasional travel may be required.
Physical Demands
  • Physical Agility: Must meet and maintain physical requirements, including an assessment of physical abilities, such as maintaining physical agility to ensure ability to squat and bend.
  • Weight Lifting: Ability to repeatedly lift and manipulate baggage, containers, weighing approximately 50 pounds and other objects subject to security processing.
  • Walking and Standing: Ability to walk up to three (3) miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours) of time.
