We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, and blood pressure
- Measure and record intake and output, including output from drains
- Apply cardiac monitors and oximetry
- Obtain EKGs and other diagnostic tests as needed
- Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory procedures
- Assist with newborn care, including bathing, dressing, and feeding
- Provide morning and evening care, including bed baths and peri-care
- Assist with pre- and post-operative care, including positioning patients and applying special equipment
- Indirect Patient Care
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, including cleaning and restocking supplies
- Perform duties delegated by the RN to facilitate patient care and unit operations
- Collect and inventory patient belongings on admission, transfer, and discharge
- Complete charges and requisition supplies as needed
- Assist with patient transportation and transfers
- Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement activities
- Assist with orientation of new staff members
- Perform related duties as assigned
- CNA certification or current enrollment in a nursing program
- CPR recognition by the American Heart Association
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
- Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
- High school diploma required; one year of college or nursing education preferred
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred
This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull forces up to 50 pounds. The work environment is fast-paced and requires excellent communication and teamwork skills.
