Position Overview: PPM Building Maintenance Mechanic --- Lakeland, FL

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This role involves skilled tasks related to the repair and upkeep of buildings, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and various mechanical equipment. The position requires executing diverse mechanical and building trades as part of general maintenance activities. While the work is performed independently, it is subject to review during and after completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts repairs and adjustments on plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and electrical fixtures, as well as doors, windows, locks, pumps, and small engines.
  • Replaces ballasts and transformers in lighting fixtures.
  • Installs and repairs electrical circuits.
  • Performs general maintenance on air-conditioning systems, including checking electrical circuits and installing low-voltage thermostats and controls.
  • Executes repairs on all plumbing systems, including cast iron, PVC, CPVC, and copper.
  • Maintains ice machines and water coolers; replaces compressors and performs system repairs and recharges; checks electrical equipment, motors, and fans.
  • Operates maintenance machinery; conducts minor repairs on building structures and furniture; cleans gutters and HVAC systems.
  • Repairs and maintains various office equipment and building components.
  • Implements preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Utilizes soldering, riveting, and bolting techniques for metal parts as necessary; repairs buildings, boilers, and shelters; maintains diverse office equipment.
  • Performs skilled carpentry tasks using power saws and standard carpentry tools.
  • May be required to work overtime or adjust hours as needed for departmental efficiency.
  • This position is classified as Mission Critical.

Additional Skills:

  • May engage in basic painting tasks, including surface preparation, primer application, paint mixing, and finish work using brushes or air guns.
  • Performs related duties as necessary.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with federal airport operations, safety, certification, and security regulations.
  • Employs wildlife control techniques as required.
  • Provides essential airfield maintenance actions in response to airport emergencies and incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in various building trades.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building trades and/or maintenance of HVAC or other facility systems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Type-II Refrigeration Service Engineers Society license regarding proper refrigerant practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to complete hiring paperwork electronically.
  • May need to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have sufficient strength and stamina to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Ability to navigate confined spaces and uneven terrain.
  • Must possess full range of motion appropriate for age.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to voice commands and alarms.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination necessary for working at heights and on uneven surfaces.
  • Safety/steel toe shoes are mandatory.
