Role Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacist in delivering pharmaceutical care within the hospital setting. This position involves preparing and processing medications under the pharmacist's supervision, ensuring proper medication storage in nursing units, and managing the repackaging and barcoding of medications. Additionally, the technician is responsible for ordering, stocking, and transporting pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established pharmacy protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in medication preparation and dispensing.
- Maintain compliance with medication storage regulations.
- Engage with patients, families, and staff in a respectful and collaborative manner.
- Perform necessary mathematical calculations for compounding medications.
Qualifications:
Education: A High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
Licensure/Certification: Must obtain registration with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician within 45 days of employment and achieve national technician certification within one year of service.
Experience: Preferred candidates will have at least one year of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and ordering. Familiarity with repackaging medications and restocking automated dispensing machines is essential. Competence in aseptic techniques and handling hazardous materials is required, along with a general understanding of data entry and report generation.
