About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Researcher to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Materials Researcher, you will play a critical role in advancing our understanding of materials and their properties, with a focus on developing innovative solutions to complex national challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct experiments and testing in our state-of-the-art materials labs to assess material structure and performance.
  • Collaborate with experts in testing, experimental mechanics, and non-destructive evaluation to delve into structure-property relationships in cutting-edge materials and advanced hardware.
  • Develop and apply new materials through collaborative projects and work with a range of instruments for testing.
  • Design and implement testing methods to understand mechanical performance in our 'Breaker Space' lab.
  • Utilize X-ray computed tomography techniques in our 'Engineering and Materials Imaging Lab' (EMILy).
  • Pursue scientific interests and advance your career in a collaborative environment that values technical excellence and creative thinking.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of lab testing experience with mechanical equipment and strain sensing tools.
  • Proficiency in experimental mechanics and experience with various test instruments for data collection and troubleshooting.
  • Adaptability, communication, organization, and safety consciousness.
  • Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance.
