Job Title: Principal, Software Engineer 2

At DIRECTV, we're seeking a highly skilled Principal, Software Engineer 2 to join our team. This role demands a creative problem-solver who is a strong partner to our internal customers and a technical innovator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business leaders to understand execution priorities and ensure developed capabilities meet desired business outcomes.
  • Participate in feasibility and cost/benefit discussions to guide prioritization and feature roadmap creation.
  • Oversee technical delivery and devise approaches to implement enhancements that efficiently take advantage of existing platform capabilities.
  • Develop delivery plans that anticipate risks and mitigate them early.
  • Lead delivery teams to work with urgency and focus to deliver quality enhancements at a high velocity.
  • Ensure teams are operating in a standardized, measurable way and monitor agile delivery metrics.
  • Understand backlog demands and manage vendor capacity and budgets to ensure resourcing is in place when needed.
  • Execute quality management processes to ensure solutions developed are performant and meet business requirements.
  • Identify needed nonfunctional requirements and ensure they are addressed.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred and highly recommended.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering and the design, development of complex systems, including as a team lead.
  • Experience working in multiple Agile methodologies and familiarity with the tooling used to coordinate this work.
  • Experience with web-specific processes and technologies, including requirements, design/UX, accessibility, content management systems, front-end frameworks, SEO, clickstream analytics, and tag management.
  • Robust knowledge of several programming languages.
  • Expertise in modern delivery and deployment practices, such as CI/CD, quality automation, test-driven development, blue/green releases strategies, etc.
  • Experience developing for and deploying to cloud environments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decisiveness in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
  • Leadership, organizational, and delegation skills to break large projects down into milestones and assign tasks best suited to team members.

DIRECTV's compensation structure is designed to be market-competitive and fully supports efforts to attract and retain employees. It is the company's policy to offer pay that is competitive with other employers in the local market. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

The Base Salary range displayed below reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for each of DIRECTV's 4 (four) US Labor Market Zones. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

DIRECTV WAGE ZONES: $140,790 - $255,530

Low (N1): $140,790 - $211,090

Mid (N2): $148,200 - $222,200

High (N3): $163,020 - $244,420

Top (N4): $170,430 - $255,530
