We are seeking a skilled Water Treatment Mechanic Assistant to join our team at the City of Lubbock. As a key member of our Water Utilities and Public Works department, you will assist in the repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of heavy industrial equipment used in waterworks systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of heavy industrial equipment, including pumps, valves, and compressors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspect equipment for proper operation or signs of malfunction.
  • Use electronic test equipment to collect machine data, such as vibration and shaft alignment.
  • Obtain parts and supplies as necessary to complete repairs.
  • Assist in the installation of new equipment or repair of existing equipment.
  • Assist in documenting work orders and contacting vendors.
  • Check pumps periodically for leaks.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent with an additional year of experience in maintenance and/or repair of heavy stationary equipment.
  • Valid current driver's license.
  • Physical exam required.

Working Conditions

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently stand and walk during the shift.
  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs, and inclined surfaces.
  • Frequently pull and push objects.
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right and left while sitting and standing.
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement to operate a vehicle.
  • Frequently bend and kneel while working on equipment.
  • Move body in a crawling motion.
