Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a motivated Dam Engineering Project Manager/Technical Lead with a strong background in Hydrology and Hydraulics to play a pivotal role in our expanding Dams Engineering practice in the U.S. Mountain Region. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer dedicated to advancing our dams practice in the core areas of Hydrologic and Hydraulic engineering. This role involves supporting a variety of dam engineering analyses and design projects across the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical execution of projects, including inspection, analysis, design, and regulatory compliance for various dams, spillways, and related hydraulic structures.
  • Conduct hydrologic analyses, including flood frequency estimates, statistical hydrology, model preparation, calibration, and verification.
  • Model hydraulic structures such as weirs, orifices, spillways, and outlet works systems using one- and two-dimensional modeling techniques as well as spreadsheet calculations.
  • Perform dam breach analyses using hydraulic modeling approaches and prepare inundation maps.
  • Support additional dam engineering activities, including potential failure modes workshops, risk analyses, and emergency action planning.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of technical deliverables prepared by team members.
  • Communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Plan, direct, manage, and supervise projects of varying scales.
  • Oversee project finances and budgets.
  • Mentor and lead junior staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 12 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrologic, Hydraulic, and/or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license in Colorado or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire.
  • 15+ years of direct experience in hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of dam projects.
  • 10+ years of experience managing projects, including budget management, scheduling, staffing, quality control, and client relations.
  • Approved FERC Independent Consultant (IC) status or the ability to obtain FERC approval for Part 12D Inspections.
  • Experience in risk assessments and Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMAs) related to dam design, construction, and operation.
  • Passion for mentoring junior staff and leadership.
  • Proficiency in software applications such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ESRI ArcMap or ArcPro, and AutoDesk AutoCAD Civil 3D & FLOW-3D.
