Role Overview:

The HVAC-R Technician is responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems primarily found in retail environments such as supermarkets and convenience stores.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on various HVAC-R systems.
  • Work autonomously with minimal supervision while ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Establish and nurture customer relationships, identifying potential sales avenues.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on supermarket refrigeration units and temperature-controlled displays.
  • Utilize system knowledge to align customer requirements with available solutions.
  • Oversee truck inventory, including ordering, receiving, and managing parts efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle in accordance with company policies, ensuring cleanliness and timely maintenance.
  • Complete all necessary documentation and electronic communications accurately and promptly.
  • Effectively use handheld devices for paperwork and invoicing tasks.
  • Employ tools such as mirrors and flashlights to inspect joints, install PVC piping, and troubleshoot complex refrigeration systems.
  • Identify and convert refrigerants and oils, and perform electric welding on various materials.
  • Diagnose and size thermostatic expansion valves accurately.
  • Possess a solid understanding of pressure regulators related to pressurized gases.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required: High School Diploma/GED and completion of an HVAC-R Technical School program or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Technical Degree in a related field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of commercial HVAC-R experience is necessary.

Additional Information:

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to fifty pounds repeatedly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with attention to detail and self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Familiarity with basic refrigeration principles and commercial HVAC systems is advantageous.
  • Leadership skills and business insight are highly valued.
  • Possession of EPA Certification and EPA 608 Universal Certification is required.
  • Strong decision-making abilities and organizational skills are essential.
