We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detention Officer to join our team at the Ellis County Sheriff's Office. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our facilities and ensuring the well-being of our inmates.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough searches of inmates and their property to prevent contraband and maintain a secure environment.
- Perform administrative tasks, including report writing and record-keeping, to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
- Monitor inmate behavior and respond to emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain the security of internal and external doors, elevators, and other areas of the facility.
- Participate in life safety drills and respond to emergency situations with confidence and composure.
- Assist with feeding, laundry exchange, recreation, religious services, visitation, and other functions to ensure the overall well-being of our inmates.
- Be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent, or a minimum of 3 college hours with a GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale from a regionally-accredited college.
- Have a favorable driving record and hold a valid driver's license; if not licensed in the State of Texas, be able to obtain a Texas Driver License before employment.
- Have 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected, in each eye; uncorrected vision cannot exceed 20/100 in each eye, unless corrected by the use of corrective lenses, which must be worn on duty and/or during all enforcement-related activities or off-duty employment.
- Be free of dichromatic color blindness, night blindness, and any other visual deficiencies or limitations.
- Have no hearing loss greater than 30-decibels (correction) in either ear; uncorrected hearing cannot exceed a 60-decibel loss in either ear.
- Be of good character and have a favorable work and school record.
- Be able to stand, walk, push, pull, and lift.
- Be able to successfully complete Detention Officer training and obtain state certification to retain employment.
- Not have a criminal record that would preclude hiring, as determined by TCLEOSE and Ellis County Sheriff's Office standards.
