Position Title: Aerospace Performance Engineer II

Role Overview:
The Aerospace Performance team is tasked with overseeing all facets of aircraft performance for both existing fleets and new product innovations.

Essential Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of fixed-wing aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and performance metrics.
- Strong grasp of aircraft flight dynamics, foundational analyses, and performance evaluation techniques.
- Experience with certification processes for transport category aircraft (Part 25).
- FAA Flight Analyst DER/AR certification preferred, or a qualified candidate for DER/AR.
- Proficiency in Fortran and MATLAB is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux systems is an advantage.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Utilize computational tools to assess aircraft performance during various flight phases, including takeoff, ascent, descent, approach, and landing, along with comprehensive mission analysis.
- Evaluate flight test data to support the development of performance databases.
- Compile performance information for aircraft flight manuals, operational guidelines, and avionics software.
- Generate compliance reports for certification purposes.
- Formulate certification strategies and compliance checklists.
- Review flight test protocols for certification initiatives.
- Collaborate with aviation regulatory bodies (FAA, EASA, etc.) to ensure adherence to performance standards.
- Develop and assess applicant positions for Issue Papers and CRIs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Address inquiries from clients/operators regarding published performance data.
- Assist in new product development projects and address fleet maintenance concerns.
- Prepare performance data for new aircraft models and variants of existing designs.
- Maintain and enhance legacy computer analysis programs while supporting the creation of new software tools and methodologies.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related technical field is required, along with 10 years of experience in a specific technical discipline or 15 years of broad engineering experience across multiple disciplines with a Bachelor's degree. Experience credit for advanced degrees is limited to 2 years for a Master's and 4 years for a PhD in relevant fields.

Position Objective:
To guide the successful execution of significant engineering projects or to conceive research in areas of substantial scope and complexity that support the development and production of General Dynamics products and services.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Selects suitable methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to address complex engineering challenges.
  2. Recognized as an authority in the field, frequently consulted by peers and others.
  3. Proactively identifies and resolves intricate issues in innovative and effective manners, establishing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities.
  4. Adopts a balanced approach to problem-solving, considering technical product requirements, cost implications, and scheduling.
  5. Operates with minimal supervision; work is assessed from a long-term perspective for desired outcomes.
  6. Exhibits discretion in determining technical objectives for assignments and makes authoritative decisions and recommendations.
