Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist works in accordance with evidenced-based policies and procedures of the Medical Center with all patient populations.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by the prescribing physician that is appropriate to all the ages of the patients served.

Administers medical gases, medications, airway clearance, mechanical ventilation, other respiratory modalities, monitors levels of supplies and equipment for department and patient care areas.

Applies theoretical knowledge to care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with other members of the healthcare team by demonstrating competence in respiratory skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Responsibilities:

  • Administers medical gases, medications, airway clearance, mechanical ventilation, and other respiratory modalities.
  • Monitors levels of supplies and equipment for department and patient care areas.
  • Applies theoretical knowledge to care of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrates competence in respiratory skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited school.
  • Basic electronic medical record documentation skills.
  • BLS required, NRP after 6 months of hire.
  • Credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license and current National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials if credentialed after July 1, 2002 or a new graduate therapist must successfully pass both the NBRC TMC (The Multiple Choice) and CSE (Clinical Simulation Exam) exams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BLS preferred for MSS.
