As a turnaround teacher, you will work closely with colleagues to develop and implement a rigorous and engaging curriculum that prepares scholars for success in college and beyond.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach high school history with a focus on turnaround work, including developing and implementing a rigorous and engaging curriculum
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop and implement a turnaround plan that addresses the academic needs of our scholars
  • Use data analysis to drive instructional decisions and teacher accountability
  • Engage scholars in a classroom culture characterized by high expectations and high support
  • Provide regular updates to families on academic progress and attendance
  • Plan and prepare for effective implementation of a coherent, vetted, research-based curriculum
  • Facilitate courses at grade-level rigor and incorporate ACT practice into all core curriculum classes
  • Develop and use a variety of assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practice
  • Maintain strong relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues through effective and frequent communication
  • Continuously improve your professional practice through weekly coaching sessions, professional development, and collaborative, data-driven reflection with department and grade-level teams
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in History or related field (required)
  • 2 years of teaching experience and state certification (preferred)
  • Strong commitment to the Democracy Prep mission and a proven track record of success in the classroom
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement a turnaround plan
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze data and drive instructional decisions
