About the Role

This is a key role in our organization, responsible for implementing and maintaining robust security controls across various systems. As an Information System Security Specialist II, you will be instrumental in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our clients' sensitive information.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Categorizing, assessing, selecting, and implementing security controls that meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Providing authorization for information systems within our Area of Responsibility (AOR) and conducting continuous monitoring activities.
  • Developing, maintaining, and tracking security plans for mission-critical systems.
  • Registering information systems with relevant DoD RMF Offices and adhering to RMF and eMASS directives.
  • Performing Risk Management Framework (RMF) lifecycle functions for mission systems, including selection and documentation of security controls.
  • Conducting initial remediation actions on security controls based on assessment reports and recommendations.
  • Preparing Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) based on assessment findings and recommendations.
  • Continuously monitoring system activity, performing ACAS scans, and reporting results for uploading to eMASS.
  • Assessing risk and updating system security plans, assessment reports, and POA&Ms based on continuous monitoring outcomes.
  • Assembling security authorization packages and submitting them to the Authorizing Official (AO).
  • Providing network monitoring and scanning functions, as well as antivirus patch management using industry-standard tools.
  • Implementing system security policies, scanning, and IAVAs for CCM compliance.
  • Providing cybersecurity reporting requirements to relevant authorities and stakeholders.
  • Performing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGing) of systems as needed, documenting results, producing reports, and communicating with technical personnel.
  • Offering Tier 2 assistance for personnel/users requiring information or assistance with Information Assurance (IA) and Cyber Security-related issues.
  • Collaborating with team members to identify IA trends and suggest long-term strategies to mitigate IA risks.
  • Analyzing and evaluating risk, making recommendations that adhere to all relevant policies, rules, and regulations governing IA functions.
Requirements

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • An active SECRET clearance.
  • A High school diploma or HS equivalency certificate, supplemented by additional years of experience.
  • A B.S. degree in Information Technology or a related field, or relevant equivalent experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • 2-4 years of direct related Cyber/IA experience.
  • Meeting specific certification and training requirements in accordance with DoD 8570.1-M, DoD 8570.1.
  • One of the following certifications: CAP/CASP+CE/CISM/CISSP/GSLC/CCISO/HCISPP.
  • CompTIA Security+ at time of start if working on IAM Level II certification.
